Q- How do I enroll my child?
A – To enroll your child, simply complete the online application and submit a nonrefundable $100 registration fee via Venmo to Montessori Canyon Academy. Once both steps are completed, we will either secure your child’s placement or add them to our waitlist. If you’d like to check the current waitlist status before submitting the registration fee, feel free to contact our staff for more information.
Q- How do I schedule a tour?
A- You can schedule a tour by using the “Contact Us” page or the “Schedule a Tour” button on the home page. Feel free to reach out to us directly to arrange a time that works best for you.
Q- What do I need to bring on my child’s first day?
A- Before your child’s first day, we ask that all required school paperwork be completed and submitted. The only item you’ll need to bring is a complete change of clothes, placed in a labeled ziplock bag with your child’s name. Even if your child is fully toilet trained, we recommend bringing a change of clothes to account for spills in the classroom or muddy play on the playground. This ensures your child can continue their day in clean, dry clothes. If your child is not yet toilet trained, please also provide a bag of diapers and wipes in addition to the change of clothes.
Q- What does snack time look like?
A- We provide a snack for your child each day. In the toddler class, snack time is a group activity where all children eat together. In the older class, snack is available as a work option on the shelf, allowing children to choose it during work time when they feel hungry. If your child has specific food allergies, we are happy to accommodate by keeping a stash of snacks you provide in the classroom. When it’s their turn for snack, they can select one from a teacher to ensure their dietary needs are met.
Q- What is a “work” or “work time” in a Montessori classroom?
A- Maria Montessori famously said, “Play is the work of the child.” In the Montessori classroom, when your child engages with the materials, they are both learning and playing. This process is what we refer to as their “work.” Unlike adults, children view work as a meaningful and exciting activity—they feel proud and important to have their own “work,” just like their parents. The main portion of the day, when children independently choose and engage with their work, is called “work time.”
Q- What time do your classes run?
A- Our AM classes for both Toddler and Early Childhood are 8:30-11:30, and our PM Early Childhood class is from 12:15-3:15.
Q- Does my child need to be toilet trained to start?
A- If you are enrolling a 2-year-old in the Toddler program, they do not need to be toilet trained. However, children over the age of 3 entering our Early Childhood program must be independently toilet trained. For us, this means they can recognize when they need to use the bathroom, get themselves there, pull down their clothes, wipe, flush, wash their hands independently, and return to class. If you need support with toilet training, feel free to refer to our “Toilet Training” section or reach out to us for guidance and ideas.
